You might be surprised, but happiness is purely internal, a state of being that you can create for yourself! Therefore by tricking your brain into thinking it’s happy, you will feel happier! So if you’re having a bad day at work or simply need a little mid-day pick-me-up, here are a few things that helps put a smile on my face, and hopefully will do the same for you.

1. Look at old photos
Look back at old vacation photos, party pictures, or any pictures of good times with loved ones! I like to keep pictures on my work desk to remind me of those memories.

2. Look at photos of cute animals
Buzzfeed’s “animal” section is my best friend on a rainy day. How can you be grumpy after all the cuteness-overload?!

3. Listen to upbeat music
Music always puts me in a great mood. Make a happy playlist when you have time and blast it when you’re feeling down! Move to the beat and the next thing you know, your anxiety will melt away.

4. Strike up a conversation
Do you have that one friend who’s always a chipper or a friend who knows all the gossip? (I know gossiping is bad but this is for a good cause…) Strike up a conversation with them and you’ll be in a better mood after engaging in a light-hearted chat.

5. Take a nap
A short power nap has been proven to improve mood, alertness, and performance. So shut your eyes for 30 minutes and it’ll leave you feeling refreshed and ready for the rest of the day!

6. Put on red lipstick
This one’s for the ladies. Slick on your favorite red lipstick (we all have one), it’ll give you a blast of confidence. Your sex appeal will turn heads which will in turn, make you smile.

Whatever you do, do not look at proposal videos on youtube. You will guaranteed to shed buckets of tears.

  1. True, a smile can change seoomne’s life. When strangers care to flash you a quick smile as you guys cross paths, it really does brighten your day a little.
